Lem Payne Scores 19 with 11 Rebounds As LCCC Cruises Against Community Christian College, 83-61

January 29, 2023 - - Lorain County Community College made it two wins in as many days as they defeated the Lions of Community Christian College, 83-61, Saturday afternoon.  Lem Payne (Philadelphia, Pa./Mount Pleasant HS) led the way for the Commodores (10-13, 3-8), scoring 19 points and pulling down 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the year. The sophomore also had four assists and three steals.

The Commodores lost to CCC (2-16) on December 15, 67-64, and they started this game similar to their first encounter with the Lions: Slow start on offense and minimal defense, going into the half leading by one, 38-37.  The Lions stayed in the game mostly because of their three point shooting, hitting eight in the first half (8-for-16).

However that 3-point shooting did not carry over into the second half as LCCC took advantage of CCC's limited roster and turned up the defense, holding the Lions to 24 points in the second half and cruising to victory.

Along with Payne, Brandon Fisher (Strongsville, Ohio/Columbia HS) was also in double figures after the first half and would finish with 15 points hitting three long range bombs and had seven rebounds. Jayden Roberts (Wellington, Ohio/Wellington HS) scored 13 points with 7 rebounds, three steals, and one assist.

Luqman Lateef (Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw HS) assisted in the scoring effort with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Quante May (Cleveland, Ohio/Horizon Science Academy) scored nine points and had 11 rebounds to go along with his two assists and two steals.

The Commodores will host the Owens Community College Express this Wednesday inside the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
