Miner hits 3-RBI Double to help weather the Storm

Highland hosted non-conference opponent Southeast Community College Tuesday afternoon after bumping the game up by two hours in hopes to avoid the incoming storm. They did just that as they defeated the Southeast Storm 5-4 in a nine-inning game.

After being shutout and trailing by three-runs through four-innings, Highland scored five un-answered runs and went on to defeat the Southeast CC Storm 5-4.

Adam Miner put the Scotties on the board in the fifth inning after hitting a three-RBI double. That shot would tie the game with the Storm 3-3.

Highland would tack on another run in the sixth-inning after Jake Hanson hit an RBI single that scored Wyatt Nowack.

The final score of the day and eventually the winning run came in the seventh from a Mitchell Austin RBI single that scored Keishon Brown.

Southeast scored one in the eighth-inning cutting the Highland lead to one. Southeast had the tying runner on with one out in the top of the ninth but a Stachys McLoud strike out followed by Wyatt Nowack catching the runner stealing second would end the game in favor of the Scotties, 5-4.

Hunter Idol was credited with the win after pitching six innings giving up three runs off six hits. He walked four and struck out two. Yadiel Pacheco pitched the seventh and gave up no runs off no hits and walked one. Jace Burdette came back to the mound after being off a few weeks due to injury and gave up one run off three hits. He struck out one and forced a ground out and a fly out. Stachys McLoud would get the save for the Scotties giving up no runs off one hit.

Highland improves to 14-21 on the year and will get back into conference play this Thursday on the road at Johnson County as they start a four-game series with the Cavaliers. Two games will be played Thursday in Overland Park at 1:00pm & 3:00pm and two more Saturday at home at 1:00pm & 3:00pm.
