MOORHEAD - The 2020 football season opener between Mississippi Delta Community College and Northwest Mississippi Community College has been canceled.

"This is an unfortunate set of circumstances, as I know that both programs were greatly looking forward to tonight's opener," said Mississippi Delta Community College President Dr. Tyrone Jackson. "Our team, and myself, was on the way to Senatobia when I received a call from Commissioner (Steve) Martin at the state board office expressing major concerns related to the number of players in quarantine there."

The leadership of the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) had multiple conversations with high-ranking officials from both colleges, discussing the status of tonight's game.

"Thus, as another precautionary measure, I requested to coach (Jeff) Tatum that our traveling party return back to the MDCC campus." said Jackson. "The health and safety of our student-athletes and coaches is of the utmost importance."

"All of us are disappointed in not being able to compete in the season opener, but our main priority and focus is on our student-athletes," said Mississippi Delta Vice President of Student Services Dr. Edward Rice.
