Spartan Men Advance to Final 4 with 78-58 Win over Union College

The M State Men's Basketball team established a new record with 30 wins in a season as they moved into the final four of the NJCAA Division III National Tournament with a 78-58 win over Union College of New Jersey.  The Spartans held Union to 28 points below their scoring average.  Foday Sheriff moved into fifth place all time in Spartan scoring.  His 26 points pushed his career total to 1063.  He also had 15 rebounds and 8 assists.

Yonis Mohamud scored 21 points and had 3 steals, Mason Muir contributed 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists, and Tyson McArthur finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Spartans shot 50% (34-68) from the floor and held a 44-37 edge on the boards.

Union College made 33% (21-64) of their field goal attempts.  They were led by Jayden Bates (21 points), Nicolas Acosta (13 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals) and Joseph Gargiulo (9 points, 4 assists).

M State (30-2) will battle the number two seed and second ranked team in the country, Mohawk Valley (27-1), at 6:00pm Friday in one of the championship semifinal contests in Herkimer, New York.
