Bulldogs bounce Coastal 7-2 in season opener

PERKINSTON — The Mississippi Gulf Coast women's tennis team cruised to a win in its opening match of 2025 Monday.

The Bulldogs beat up on Coastal Alabama-South 7-2 at the MGCCC Tennis Complex.

Valeria Callejo-Vivar (So., Madrid, Spain/I.E.S. Ortega y Gasset) was particularly dominant, teaming with Danique Vermue (So., 's-Heerenhoek, Netherlands/Scheldemon College) to win No. 1 doubles 8-3 before winning her No. 2 singles match without dropping a game.

Vermue also picked up two points, as did Isona Arnaus (Fr., Barcelona, Spain/Centre Lopez Vicuna) and Lauren Sullivan. They teamed up to win No. 2 doubles before winning their singles courts.

Dallas Tanner (So., Hattiesburg/Oak Grove) won at No. 5 doubles.

Gulf Coast will travel to Vicksburg on Tuesday to play an exhibition match against NCAA Division I Alcorn State. First serves are set for 1 p.m.
