Trailblazer golf places fifth at Conference Tournament, Jordan receives All-Conference honors

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Vincennes University Trailblazer golf team teed off their postseason play with the Mid-West Athletic Conference (MWAC) tournament at Champaign Country Club Monday and came away with a fifth-place finish as a team.

Vincennes sophomore Matt Jordan had another solid tournament, starting the day Monday with a 74, good for second on the individual leaderboard.

Bryce Kirchner shot a first-round 81, Cole Parmer 86, Jackson Roberts 88 and Brock Craney 97, good for a team score of 329.

The Trailblazers looked to improve in the second round of the day but fatigue may have begun to set in as VU was playing their fourth round of golf in just three days.

Jordan shot a second-round 76, Kirchner 82, Parmer 85, Roberts 90, Craney 94 for a team score of 333, giving the Blazers a total team score of 662, good for a fifth-place finish.

Jordan combined total was 150 which placed him fourth on the individual leaderboard and earned him All-MWAC Conference honors.

Kirchner finished with a 163, Parmer 171, Roberts 178 and Craney 191.

"Matt had a great tournament again being named All-Conference," VU Golf coach Dennis Chattin said. "This was a tough test for us as we had a scheduling conflict with our tournament Saturday and Sunday so we weren't able to see the course before we played it."

"The wind, according to local radio accounts, had gusts over 40 miles per hour. It was so windy it was even affecting putts. When wind gusts are like that it was really hard to trust the wind. About the time you plan for the wind, it either gusts or slows and can make for some ugly results, even when it was a well struck ball and with this being a 36-hole in one day tournament, it made for a long day. I think our guys let it get to them."

The VU Golf take to the course next when the Blazers compete for a Region 24 Title at the Region 24 Championships at Panther Creek Golf Course in Springfield, Ill. The tournament will begin Monday, May 3 and continue on Tuesday, May 4.
