Lakers Fall in Third Match in National Volleyball Championship

Rochester, M.N. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Volleyball team played their third game of the NJCAA National Volleyball Tournament against the Pioneers of Butler County Community College out of Pennsylvania.

The Pioneers proved tough for the Lakers, sweeping them in three sets, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-18.

Sophomore Brandy Morrison (Macedon, N.Y./ Palmyra Macedon) continued her consistent contributions, adding 13 kills, 2 digs and 1 block assist. Freshman Emma Sipos (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) added 6 kills, 9 digs, 1 ace and 1 assist, while teammate Oona O'Brien (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) contributed 5 kills and 3 digs in three sets played.

Freshman Meghan Johnson (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) came into the match, adding 10 digs and teammate Jenna Wallace (Baldwinsville, N.Y./ Baldwinsville) continued her consistent play as the setter, adding 22 assists, 4 digs and 1 ace on the day. 

The Lakers turn around to play their last match of the NJCAA, DIII, National Volleyball Championships tomorrow at 11 AM. The Lakers will take on the Pioneers of Rowan College South Jersey – Gloucester in a battle for 7th place in the tournament.

The game will conclude the Lakers historic season in which they won their first Region III championship in program history in route to their first ever National Championship appearance.
