ECC vs Independence

The 2019 football campaign ended with a 50-3 loss for Ellsworth Community College against 12th ranked Independence Community College.

The Pirates scored three times in the first quarter to lead 20-0 early on.

In the second period, the Panthers caught a break. The Pirates faked a punt as ECC snuffed it out and got the ball on the 34. Kionte Blakely had a big run down to the one yard line setting up first and goal.

However, the Panthers went backwards to the six and brought Iowa Falls-Alden's Logan Ward on for the field goal attempt. He split the uprights and ECC was on the board, trailing 20-3.

Immediately following the score, the Panthers kicked off to Nathaniel Dell, who rolled all the way down to pay dirt for the 89 yard touchdown and all the momentum was back with the visitors.

During ECC's next offensive series, a bad snap went to the back of the end zone resulting in a safety. On the next kick return, the Pirates had another big kick return that was called back due to holding. Independence still got on the board with no time left on the clock, leading 36-3 at the break.

The visitors tacked two more touchdowns on the day, finishing with 376 yards of total offense. The Panthers finished with 37 passing yards and 66 rushing yards – led by Mychael Hamilton with 27.

ECC finishes out the season 2-9 defeating Dodge City and earning the victory over Fort Scott due to forfeit. Though the Scotties won the game 36-0, Fort Scott was forced to forfeit their wins after an NJCAA rules violation of the use of an ineligible player.
