Women's Basketball Clinches First Win

Elgin, Ill., Nov. 16, 2021 - The Elgin Community College women's basketball team secured its first win of the 2021-22 season with a 64-46 victory over the College of DuPage on Tuesday.

The Spartans improve to 1-3 as the Chaparrals dip to 1-4.

Jessie Dumoulin led the team with a season-high 23 points. Trinity Reyes scored 16 and grabbed six rebounds and Ariana Marchan tallied 15 points and seven rebounds.

Elgin held the Chaps to a .229 shooting percentage throughout the game.

ECC found a 10-point scoring streak, including three-pointers from Dumoulin and Ariann Franco, in the middle of the first quarter to take a 15-5 lead.

The Spartans scored 19 points in the second quarter, which would be the highest of the game. The team once again held the Chaps scoreless, this time for seven points, within the first few minutes.

Elgin continued to rally to enter the second half with the 32-20 advantage.

The Spartans pushed the lead to 18 points in the third quarter as they continued their offensive dominance.

With one minute remaining, the team pushed its lead to a game-high 19 points before clinching the 64-46 win.

ECC travels to Olive-Harvey College for a rematch on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
