Reiver Split the Squad in Week Two of the Indoor Season

The Reivers were back in action for their 2nd competition traveling to Lincoln, NE for the Graduate Classic at the University of Nebraska, and Yankton, SD for the Mt Marty Opener. 

Sophomore Jazmyn James broke a personal best and the school record and national qualifying mark to lead placing 4th on the shot put in 14.78m. Sophomore Shakera Williams placed 9th in 13.60m also posting a national qualifier and personal best. Sophomore Antonia Sealy also posted a national qualifier in 12.22m. Sophomore Shakiel Dacres continued the strong barrage by the throws group posting a national qualifier, in 15.78m good for 11th place. 

Sophomore Miracle Ailes won the long jump posting a national qualifier in 5.84m. Ailes doubled back in the 60m dash finishing 4th in a pb 7.68 to hit a national qualifying mark. 

Sealy also posted a national qualifier in the prelims of the 60m hurdles with a new pb 8.75. She went on to finish 4th in the final. 

Freshman Jacinto Gaspar had a close finish in the 3000m to place 4th in a national qualifier 8:25.91. 

Sophomore Tahj Hamm was 2nd in the 200m in a national qualifying mark of 21.66. Freshman Paul Rowden also stood on the podium with a 2.05m in the men's high jump. Tyler Missick was 7th in the high jump posting a 2.00m national qualifying mark. 

In the Mt Marty Opener, Gaspar doubled back and won the 1000m posting a national qualifying mark of 2:33.36. Freshman Qwentin Coble 6.48m and Mohammed Bass 6.45m led a 1-2 finish in the men's long jump. 

Sophomore Roman Smith was 4th in the triple jump with a 13.06m showing. Freshman Denzs Simmonds was 2nd in the shot put with a 16.13m national qualifying performance. Freshman Jacob Sidles threw a pb of 13.53m to finish 6th. 

"This was a busy weekend for our squads. Jazmyn James hit a big throw in the shot to break the school record and Jacinto Gaspar continues to impress also breaking a school record", says Head Coach David Burnett. "We had several distance runners step up and run both meets and a few events and that shows they will do what we need to continue to lay the foundation for later in the season. "

The Track and Field squads return to action next week at the Northwest Missouri State Open on January 21.
