Bears drop a pair of games at Pearl River

The No.8 ranked Pearl River Wildcats used a massive hit explosion today to defeat the Baton Rouge Bears twice.  Game one final score was 11 to 1, in seven innings and game two was 18 to 3, in five innings.

In game one, Pearl River used  two big scoring innings to defeat the Bears.  Pearl River would score one run in the first, and six runs in the second, which included a grand slam to take the early 7 to 0 lead.  Baton Rouge would score their only run, in the fourth inning, when Samuel Jarrell, who led off with a single, would score on a wild pitch.  Pearl River would add to their lead with three more in the fifth and one run in the sixth to take the 11 to 1 victory.

Pearl River outhit Baton Rouge 8 to 2.

Reece Ewing grabbed the victory for Pearl River.  He pitched three and two-thirds innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out six. Evan Bencel got the loss for the Bears.  He pitched one and two-thirds inning allowing seven runs on four hits. Brett Fisackerly, Jacob Jensen, Garrison Beiriger all pitched in relief for the Bears.

 

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 2 with 1 run

William Veillon went 1 for 3

 

Game two was a mirror image of game one for the Pearl River Wildcats. The Wildcats would use a 10 run second inning to take a commanding lead that the Bears could not overcome thus falling in game two 18 to 3.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with a run in the second. William Veillon, who walked, would score on a Luis Marmolejos double to right field. Pearl River would then explode for ten runs in the bottom of the second inning, which included two home runs.  Pearl River would add four more runs in the third and four more runs in fourth to take an 18 to 1 lead after four.  The Bears would not quit and they would score two runs in the fifth but it was not enough to overcome the early deficient. In the fifth, the Bears would score two runs on a Bo Barrilleaux single to right field.

Colin Danley got the victory for the Wildcats.  He pitched three innings, allowing one run on one hit, while striking out two. Tanner Young got the loss for the Bears.  He pitched one and two-thirds innings allowing ten runs over eight hits. Christopher Sagrera, Salvador Lusco, William Garrett Smith and Christopher Courville all pitched in relief for the Bears.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Mitchel Lemoine went 1 for 1

Bo Barrilleaux went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs

Luis Marmolejos went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI

Cameron Guitreau went 1 for 1 with 1 Run

 

The Bears will be back in action this Sunday March 3 versus Co-Lin Wolves, in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
