The RCGC men's soccer team faced a tall order when they squared off against Herkimer College, ranked No. 4 in the country, in the first round of the Coliseum Kickoff Classic in Herkimer, NY on Saturday. And the host Generals proved too much as they spoiled the Roadrunners opening contest of the 2017 campaign with a 4-0 victory.
The Runners missed an open net opportunity in the first half with the game scoreless. Herkimer took advantage and tallied two unanswered goals to grab a 2-0 halftime lead. The Generals added two more goals in the second half for the final count of 4-0.
"The team played hard and never gave up until the final whistle," said head coach George Hobbins.
On Sunday, RCGC played well in a 1-0 loss to Broome CC during the second game of the Coliseum Kickoff Classic.
The Roadrunners will host Bucks County College in the home opener Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
