KILGORE -- A big afternoon at the plate resulted in the first doubleheader sweep of the 2020 season for Lamar State College Port Arthur as the Seahawks took a 9-6 non-conference decision over Kilgore College on Saturday.

The Seahawks, now 3-10 overall, won the first game of the doubleheader 3-1. In the second game, the Seahawks gathered up five doubles at the plate, led by Maleia Taylor's two two-baggers, while Alexa Garza, Erica Riley and Brooke Smith each also had extra-base hits.

Taylor went 2 for 4 with a run scored and a run batted in, while Riley finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs for the Hawks. Brooke Smith went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. LSCPA also got hits from Vanessa Espitia, Grace Coffelt, Britni Hunt and Elicia Gonzales, adding up to 11 hits in the game for the Hawks.

LSCPA picked up four quick runs to start the game as Kilgore scratched back to within one at 4-3 heading into the fourth inning. That's when the Seahawks added four more runs, enough to put the game out of reach of the Rangers, who fall to 4-8 with the losses.

Miranda Pollock got the win for the Seahawks in the circle, allowing three earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Garza came on in relief, allowing three earned runs on six hits with a strikeout and a walk.

The Seahawks play their first home games of the season on Friday, February 28, when Frank Phillips College faces off with LSCPA in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Martin Field.

Those games kick off a nearly three-week home stand with the Seahawks playing Bossier Parish Community College on Sunday, March 1, and Angelina College on Friday, March 6, before starting NJCAA Region 14 play against Blinn College on Friday, March 13. All those doubleheaders start at 1 p.m.
