Highland Softball Snags Two Wins on Road in Sweep of MCC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Highland softball kept rolling on Friday as they picked up a sweep on the road in non-conference play beating Metropolitan Community College 10-0 in five innings and 8-5.

The Scotties who rank #7 in the Nation in NJCAA DII moved to 26-10 on the season with the sweep and picked up their ninth doubleheader sweep of the season. Wins also give the Scotties a six-game win streak.

Game one of the doubleheader quite often this season has been dominated by the Scotties and it was the same case on Friday as Highland cruised to the win over MCC 10-0 in five innings. Highland got on the board in the top of the second as a single, walk and walk loaded the bases and Chevelle Sartin brought in two with a double and Alexis Hodapp added two more for the Scotties on a single making it 4-0.

In the third inning the Scotties pounded out six runs by batting around as a three-run home run by Alley Rickel highlighted the inning. Scotties continued to shutdown MCC throughout the rest of the contest and cruised to 10-0 win.

Kelly Uthe was strong inside the circle as she earned the win tossing five shutout innings giving up just two hits and struckout four. Offensively the Scotties saw Hodapp go 2-3 with four RBI's, while Sartin was 2-3 with a run scored, double and three RBI's and Isabella Konieczka was 2-3 with two runs scored, stolen base and a walk.

Game two saw the Scotties take the initial lead of the game in the third as they broke through with four runs with a two RBI double by Sara Shinn, RBI double by Kami Zimmerman and an RBI sac fly by Lora Shinn. MCC answered with a run in the bottom of the third but the Scotties wasted no time to get back on the board with two more runs in the top of the fourth.

The game got a bit tighter in the bottom of the fifth as MCC plated three runs to make it 6-4. In the sixth Sartin tattooed a ball over the fence for her 11th home run of the season, while MCC also scored a run in bottom of the sixth making it 7-5 entering the seventh. Scotties added an insurance run in the top of the seventh and set MCC down in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the game two win 8-5.

Sarah Bond earned the win in the circle tossing five innings as the starter giving up four runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out one. Bailey Lacy picked up the save tossing the final two innings giving up a run on two hits and a walk, while striking out three.

At the plate the Scotties had three gals notch a pair of hits as Konieczka was 2-4 with a run scored and stolen base, while Sartin went 2-2 with two RBI's, a run scored and home run. Zimmerman finished the contest 2-3 with two RBI's and a walk.

Highland continues their season on Monday, April 22nd at home against Neosho County for their final KJCCC doubleheader of the season.
