Stewart goes the distance in GOCC baseball win
Vikings claim MCCAA victory over Marian University's Ancilla College.
Glen Oaks baseball began MCCAA Western Conference play Tuesday with a 15-5 home win in six innings against Marian University's Ancilla College. The Vikings had control from the very start, racing to an 8-0 lead with six runs in the first inning and two in the second.
The Chargers got on the board with two runs in the top of the third inning. Glen Oaks matched that with solo spots in the third and fourth. Ancilla added their remaining three runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Vikings counted with five in the bottom half to reach the run rule threshold.
GOCC outhit Ancilla 13-7 on the day. Jackson Stewart had a complete game victory on the mound, allowing six hits, five runs, two earned runs, three walks, and one strikeout. Offensively, Erick Marin had a double and two singles with one run and two RBI. Jayden Hamilton doubled, singled, and walked twice, scoring three runs with two RBI.
Brody Wardenburg also had two hits with two RBI and one run. Peyton Simmons drew four walks and had one hit, scoring twice with two RBI. Steven Drewyor, Andrew Onuegbu, and McCullan Greene each had two runs scored. The Vikings stole six bases with Brayden Clark swiping two bags.
Glen Oaks continues league play with a home game Thursday at 2 p.m. against Lansing Community College. The Vikings are 4-16 overall, but 3-2 since returning home to Michigan.
