Box Score For the second time under Coach
Jon Bingesser and second consecutive year the Scottie volleyball team has racked up 30 wins in a season and did so in the 2018 season by picking up the four set win over Kansas City Kansas Community College on Wednesday night.
The Scotties dispatched KCKCC in four sets 23-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-15 to push their school record win streak to 20-straight wins and continue their strong play.
Highland opened the night with a pair of aces early at
Katie Pearson and
Myla Turner helped the Scotties led 4-2 over KCKCC in set one. The lead worked its way to four for the Scotties but KCKCC tied the set at 15-15 and took the lead at 16-15 and then the Blue Devils held Highland at bay the rest of the set taking it 23-25.
It didn't take long in set two for the Scotties to answer the bell putting together a 6-0 run to lead 8-2. That lead continued to blossom in the second set for Highland going up 16-9 when KCKCC called a timeout. The H&H duo of
Hannah Williams and
Hannah Wagner had a big double block late in the match to set up set point which the Scotties registered to take set two 25-15.
Set three saw another strong start to the set for Highland going up 4-1 on an
Cajia Allen ace and worked their lead to 11-3. KCKCC didn't go away putting together a 5-1 run to make it a 13-12 set and the Scotties had an answer getting the next four points to force a KCKCC timeout. After the Blue Devils drew within one Highland outscored them 12-5 the rest of the third set to win it 25-17.
The dominance that the Scotties had put forth in the second and third sets was on display again in the fourth set as Highland opened the set on a 9-0 run that include a Williams solo block. The lead was quickly double figures and the Scotties cruised to the set four win 25-15 to take the match in four sets.
Offensively the Scotties have five players with seven or more kills on the night including Cohalla who led the team with 18 kills to go over 400 on the season.
Lee Sexton posted her 12
th match with double figure kills notching 12 in the win, while Wagner tallied eight kills and added three digs and two blocks on the night. Defensively the Scotties recorded 90 digs in the contest with four ladies in double figures in the digs stat column led by Turner who had 26 digs, her seven 20+ dig performance of the season.
Katie Pearson was spectacular at setter again and ultra strong on defense finishing with 18 digs and 46 assists pushing her to fourth most assists in a single season with her output this year. While Allen tallied third straight double figure dig match with 18 and added eight kills, four assists and an ace.
With the win Highland improves to 30-2 on the season and 6-1 in the KJCCC and now turns their attention to the newest member of the KJCCC in Hesston as the Scotties travel to Hesston for a showdown with the Larks on Friday, October 19
th at 5:30pm (match will be streamed on Scottie Sports Network).
