Navarro Basketball snapped a miserable four-game losing streak Saturday with a 79-62 victory over the Paris Dragons at Lewis Orr Court in the Wolens Special Events Center.
To end Navarro's longest losing streak during the Grant McMillan Era, the Bulldogs rediscovered their stroke and balance by hitting 49 percent of their shots from the floor, highlighted by 10 three-pointers from six sources. Three players reached double-figure scoring, led by sophomore guard Justin Thomas' 16-point, 11-rebound double-double.
The much-needed 17-point win was Navarro's most lopsided since a 75-55 conference win at Victoria before the mid-semester break. Since January 3, the frustrated Bulldogs had dropped six of eight games -- four by five points or less.
Thomas recorded his second double-double and the team's fourth of the season, while adding two assists, a steal and a blocked shot in the effort.
Sophomore Jaylen Harrison contributed 15 points with a team-high seven assists and five steals. Three of his steals resulted in basket-and-one opportunities.
Sabry Philip hit six of eight shots from the floor and finished with 13 points, plus four rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot.
NC (12-10/6-5) set the tone early by rattling off the game's first 10 points and a 16-2 lead six minutes into the contest. The Bulldogs, which led 39-20 at halftime, opened up as much as a 27-point lead.
Paris got a game-high 33 points from Koron Davis, a mark that represents the individual high-scoring game in Region XIV this season. Davis, one of seven Region XIV players to score 30 or more in games this season, shares top-scoring honors with Tyler's Corey Camper. Other 30-plus players are Kilgore's Daveon Thomas (32), Lee's Kyron Gibson and Lamar's Kharee McDaniel (31). and Angelina's Quandre Bullock and Kilgore's Dantwan Grimes (30).
Navarro won't return to the Wolens SEC until Saturday, Feb. 12 when it hosts Tyler. The Bulldogs journey to Athens on Wednesday, Feb. 2 to renew their rivalry with the TVCC Cardinals at Leonb Spencer Court at Cardinal Gym.
