Big second half and defensive effort pushes Indians past Co-Lin

Fulton, Miss. – Itawamba Community College picked up its first win of the season Thursday night 30-3 over Copiah-Lincoln Community College behind a big second half and a strong defensive performance.

The Indian defense seemed to be in the Wolves (0-2) back field most of the night, and that pressure helped the Tribe grab two interceptions that led to a pair of scores. An Antonio Thompson (Clinton) late in the third that led to a 24-yard field goal to give the Indians a 17-3 lead, and a 27-yard pick six from Corley Hooper (Ecru) early in the fourth to extend the lead to 23-3. Hooper also led the Indians with 11-tackles.

While the defense was keeping the Wolves out of sync, the Indian offense put up 395 total yards highlighted by big performances from wide receiver's Shamar Sandgren (Savannah, Ga.) and Chris Howard (Lakeland, Fla.).

Sandgren eclipsed the 100 yard receiving mark for the second week in a row grabbing 10-catches for 120-yards and one touchdown, while Howard caught 11 passes for 128 yard and a touchdown.

Sophomore quarterback Dylan Faulk (Hernando) finished the contest 31-37 for 327 yards and two touchdowns while spreading the ball around to six different targets.

Late in the first half, the Indians broke the scoreless stalemate on an eight-yard strike from Faulk's to Chris Howard (Lakeland, Fla.).

Faulk's second touchdown came on a 31-yard pass to Sandgren in the third. The Indians final score came on a powerful one-yard run from Jamal Brooks (Ripley) with three minutes left on the clock.

The Indians will open North Division play Thursday, Sept. 16 against Coahoma Community College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Fulton and will be available on LetsGoICCTV.com/red.
