Highland locks in No. 2 seed with 69-51 win over Blue Devils


Highland, KS- The Highland Men's Basketball team, now 22-7 on the season locked in the No. 2 seed in the Region VI Tournament with a 69-51 win over Kansas City Kansas CC on sophomore night.
 
The six-person Blue Devil team was no match for the Scotties as Highland took a 6-0 lead to start the game and never looked back.
 
The Blue Devils hung around throughout the first but Highland carried a seven-point lead into the break on the hot shooting hand of Ryan Haskins who was a perfect 5-5 from three in the first half.
 
Haskins buried the first shot of the second half from deep and Highland took a 10-point lead over the Blue Devils.
 
Holden Redparth came alive in the second half scoring 10 points in a three-minute span to give Highland a 16-point, 46-30 lead. Back to back three pointers from Haskins and Redparth and an Alonzo Williams jumper would stretch the lead to 22 with 13:40 left in the game.
 
The Scotties held onto a comfortable 20-point lead the remainder of the game and came away with the victory 69-51 over the Blue Devils.
 
Ryan Haskins had a big night shooting in front of his home crowd finishing 7-8 from behind the arc and scoring 21 points to lead the Scotties. Haskins also dished out six assists and had four rebounds. Holden Redparth scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half and grabbed eight rebounds on the night. Leland Harvey and Alonzo Williams both finished the night with eight points each.
 
Highland forced 17 Blue Devils turnovers and held them to 34% shooting from the floor and 31% from three. Kansas City Kansas only had one scorer in double figures with Juwan Davenport finishing with 26 points.
 
Highland solidified there 2nd place KJCCC finish and No. 2 seed in the Region VI Tournament with a win over Kansas City Kansas and a Fort Scott loss to Johnson County. The Scotties will travel to Fort Scott to play their final regular season game on Saturday, February 24 at 4:00pm.
 
With a No. 2 seed in the Region VI Tournament, Highland will get a first round bye and host the winner of the No. 3 vs. No. 5 seed on Saturday, March 3rd at 3:00pm in Ben Allen Field House in Highland, KS.
