Barton men's golf finishes runner-up with five in the top fourteen of the Central Kansas Classic #GoBarton

The Barton Community College men's golf team completed its second tournament of the season with another runner-up placing falling short by fourteen strokes at the Central Kansas Classic held at McPherson's Turkey Creek Golf Course.

Barton trailed eventual winner Garden City Community College by five strokes into Tuesday's final round but the Broncbusters pulled away with a 283 to complete the three rounds at 2-under 838. The Cougars opened with a 283, improved in Monday's afternoon round of 278, but fell further behind on a final round 291 in compiling a 12-over 852.

Barton men's golf team at 2022 Central Kansas Classic The Cougars also entered a second squad in the fifteen team field, placing 8th overall with 309-308-314 rounds for a 91-over 931.

Otto Heden gave chase for the individual title, firing a 5-under 65 Monday morning followed by a 1-under 69 in the afternoon to lead by two into the final round. Sliding down into the second spot with a 5-over 75, Heden completed the three days at 1-under 209 as Garden City's Anthony DeSchutter carded a trio of 68 rounds in winning the title at 6-under 204.

In addition to Heden, the Cougars had four other Cougars in the top fourteen of the eighty-four participant field.

Warathan Thamachok placed 4th overall with a pair of 72 rounds on either side of a 68 to compile a 2-over 212 with Axel Bolander close behind at 4-over 214 with a 70 sandwiched in between a pair of 72 cards.

Tanapoom Kaewjoey led the second squad of entries with an 8th place overall, opening with a 69 followed by twin 73 rounds for a 5-over 215.

Carding consistent rounds of 74-75-73, Tom Lehmann finished a six-way tie for 14th with a 12-over 222.

Bouncing back from an opening 83, Ethan Bonnett moved up twenty-seven spots in the next two rounds in carding a 71 and 74 for a 27th spot 18-over 228.

In 38th position was Keegan O'Shea at 23-over 233 (77-75-81), Anthony Arriola in 44th at 29-over 239 (81-80-78), and Thantup Saengvut scoring a 34-over 244 (82-80-82) placed 52nd overall.

The Cougars are back on the links next Monday for the two-day Carmichael Cup held September 19-20 at Salina's Municipal Golf Course.
