Cross Country Teams Led By Pair of Top 10 Finishes At FHSU Tiger Open

The Cross Country teams were in action one final time before Regionals this past Saturday competing at the Tiger Open hosted by Fort Hays State University at Sand Plum in Victoria, Kansas.

With the course damp, muddy in spots and reworked for the race the Scottie women and men posted team finishes of fifth and sixth, respectively out of 10 and 12 school's fielding team's in the Black Division race at the Tiger Open.

The women posted a team score of 144 points just one-point behind Pratt CC giving the Scotties fifth place as a team. Leading the charge for the Highland women was the performance of Coshan Campbell who posted a time of 20:13.2 to finish 10th place out of 113 runners.

Three Scottie women along with Campbell finished in the Top 50 on the day at the Tiger Open. Edita Sklenska and Magdalena Burdova posted finishes of 32nd and 35th with times of 20:58.7 and 21:04.8, while Justeen Cantu placed 48th with a time of 21:17.6. Kendall Williams ran to 54th place behind a time of 21:25.7, while Hailey Woodard in her first race of the season finished 68th with a time of 21:57.4. Michelle Alfaro and Chloe Schnee were also in action placing 94th (23:33.2) and 104th (24:46.2), respectively.

A pair of runners for the Scottie men got on the podium as the Top 25 were recognized at the awards ceremony. Kelvin Kipkemboi paced the Scotties again earning 10th place out of 175 runners running to a time of 26:02. Saulo Yoel raced to a 26:29.4 time finishing 19th place for the third Top 20 finish of the day for the Scotties overall. Maekele Habtom had the third best finish for the Scottie men finishing with a time 28:00.6 to place 78th, while Javon Watkins placed 89th (28:17.3). Larvonte Owens and Mookie Rolle were each in action also placing 98th (28:35) and 171st (35:04.2), respectively.

Highland with the meet hosted by FHSU in the books now turns their attention to the postseason with Regionals coming on Saturday, October 27th in Winfield, Kansas the Scotties look to compete for top spots in the Region and Conference.
