Coming up big in conference play

The Cyclones took some key conference games from Prairie State College in the doubleheader victory.

GAME ONE
There was only one inning the Cyclones didn't score in their dominant 18-7 victory.

At the start of the second inning, the Cyclones were down 3-1 before they surged ahead. With two on, Christian Rosales (2-for-3, RBI) hit an RBI single to centerfield. Mateo Velazquez (3-for-3, 4 RBIs) was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Ryder Johnson (1-for-4, RBI) hit a sac fly to tie the game. Andrew Phelan (4-for-5, 3 RBIs) came up with a single to score the go-ahead run. When Phelan was picked off stealing second, Velazquez was able to score to make it 5-3.

A single from Phelan and triple by Caston Norris (2-for-5, RBI) in the fourth, gave the Cyclones a four-run lead. The Pioneers inched closer in the fifth inning from Cyclone fielding errors and hits, but that was the last time they would cross the plate. In their next at-bat, the Cyclones hit a string of singles and one double to lead 15-7. Phelan, Norris, Alejandro Munoz (1-for-5), Timothy O'Connell (2-for-3, 2 RBIs), Troy Vosburgh (2-for-5, 3 RBIs), Velazquez and Johnson each had a single that inning with Phelan finishing with a double. A two-run triple from Vosburgh and RBI single from Velazquez in the top of seventh sealed the Cyclone win.

On the mound, Bryan Collier and Jack Greaney walked four and struck out six, collectively.

GAME TWO
Both teams had nine hits with the Cyclones making a comeback for the 8-5 win.

The Pioneers took an early lead after earning some walks and hits, but the Cyclones went ahead in the fourth inning thanks to a two-run single from Velazquez (1-for-4, 2 RBIs). They extended the lead the next inning on an RBI double from Nicholas Haran (2-for-4, RBI).

Although the Pioneers came within one after that, the Cyclones had another string of singles to cushion their lead. Phelan, Norris (1-for-2, RBI), Munoz (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) and O'Connell (1-for-4) singled in the sixth.

Collier and Rosales combined on the mound for four walks and four strikeouts over seven innings.
