Lady Pirates Place 3rd At Peru State Behind Baskett’s 11th Place Finish

The North Central Missouri College Women's Golf team traveled to Nebraska City, NE on Thursday and Friday to compete in the Peru State Fall Invitational hosted by Peru State College. The Pirates shot an opening round 380 and a final round tally of 391. The 36-hole total of 771 placed NCMC in 3rd place out of 6 schools competing at the event. Iowa Western Community College won the team portion of the event.

The Pirates were led by Haley Baskett firing an impressive round of 87 on Thursday then posting a final round score of 94 to finish in 11th place for the event. "I was very pleased with the progress and work that Haley has put in these last couple weeks. She was a little disappointed after Rockhurst so she was motivated last week to improve and it showed. Her length can shorten up a lot of courses we play she just needs to eliminate a couple big numbers on the scorecard and I only expect her to get better from here."

Right behind Baskett NCMC got a 12th place finish from ReaLee Smith who competed in her first event of the Fall. Smith stayed consistent throughout the tournament shooting a 94 on Thursday and improving on that total with a 92 on Friday. "I was very happy with the mindset that ReaLee had at the tournament. We knew there were going to be some nerves at the beginning with it being her first event of the Fall but after she settled in and got into a groove it was fun to watch. She knows there was still improvement out there but we got a lot of positives from her last week." Lexi Hutton and Kennedy Dickerson placed 18th and 19th respectively for NCMC. Hutton shot a two-day score of 201 and Dickerson shot a 36-hole total of 203. "Kennedy had a great attitude and is moving in the right direction for us. We will clean up her short game this week which was the one negative at the event but she is doing a great job so far of keeping the ball in play and not taking penalty shots which is vital to scoring your golf ball. Lexi played well on Thursday but had a rough start to the beginning of her round on Friday. She will learn a lot from this event, take away the positives and be ready for Graceland on Thursday."

Brianna Filey rounded out the Pirate scoring with an opening round of 113 and a final round score of 121. "Brianna is making some really solid strides for us so far. She is still trying to get the consistency down around the greens but her length off the tee is making solid progress. She is going to work hard this week on 150 yards and in and iron play to improve her score even more."

The NCMC Women's Golf team will now turn their attention to the Graceland Fall Invitational in Lamoni, IA on September 17th at Lamoni Golf and Country Club.
