Anastassia Gallego scored the game winning goal late in the second half to cap off defensive struggle that saw No. 4 seed Suffolk County edge No. 5 RCSJ Gloucester, 2-1, in a quarterfinal game in the NJCAA Women's Soccer Division III National Championship tournament in Batavia, NY Thursday.
The Roadrunners' Isabella Moore had just tied the game at 1-1 with an unassisted goal just moments earlier before Gallego's goal enabled Suffolk to reclaim the lead for good.
Suffolk's Briana Alvarez scored the first goal at 63:68 in the second half to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead before Moore tied it at 1-1 on her unassisted goal seconds later.
Gallego notched the game-winner at 70:17, netting a goal with an assist from Lizbeth Royo.
RCSJ goalkeeper Lauren Graham recorded seven saves on 9 shots on goal.
The Runners, who dropped to 13-3-1 overall, will now play No. 8 Community College of Rhode Island Thursday in a 4 pm consolation game. With a win, the Runners hope to place either 5th or 6th in the final D III standings.
