DMACC women's golf team finishes third in Mount Mercy tourney

 

The DMACC women's golf team came away with a third-place finish in the Mount Mercy Spring Invitational April 15 and 16 at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City.

 

The Bears posted a 36-hole score of 714 after shooting a 356 on April 15 and a 358 on April 16. William Penn University (WPU) took the team championship with 661 strokes and Mount Mercy University (MMU) was second at 683.

 

Olivia Lange of WPU took medalist honors with a 158. She shot identical rounds of 79 over the par 72 layout.

 

Sophomore Halle Hagberg of Polk City led DMACC with a sixth-place finish. Hagberg shot rounds of 86 and 84 for a two-day total of 170. Sophomore Anne van Hemert of Eindhoven, Netherlands, finished tenth with 173 strokes. She turned in rounds of 84 and 89.

 

DMACC, the only two-year school competing in the tournament, got a 14th place finish from freshman Haley Loonan of Gilbert and sophomores Viola Welsh of Fairfield and Lilly Houtakker of Solon tied for 26th. Loonan posted rounds of 91 and 90 for a 36-hole score of 191 and Welsh and Houtakker were at 190. Welsh shot 95 in both of her rounds and Houtakker shot 101 in the first round and 89 in the second round.

 

Freshman Rebekah Carlson of Jewell rounded out DMACC's performance with a 29th-place finish. She had rounds of 98 and 96 for a two-day total of 194.

 

The DMACC women's golf team will play in the NIACC Spring Invitational April 22 at Legacy Golf Course in Mason City.
