Senators win Region 7 Tournament/Cleveland State Invitational

OOLTEWAH, TN – Thanks to a strong back-nine as a team, Walters State took home the Region 7 Golf Championship and Cleveland State Invitational Title on Monday afternoon at The Ooltewah Club.

Using 13 birdies, the Senators shot 6-under as a team on the back-nine and finished the tournament even-par as a team. That even score was 10 shots better than runner-up Georgia Military. The tournament was cut from 36 to 18 holes following a weather delay throughout the morning.

Individually, Bowen Brantley led the way with a 2-under performance. Brantley birdied the 12th, 14th and 15th holes to shoot 2-under on the back nine and then birdied his final hole of the day, the first hole, to put him in a tie for first-place with Roane State's Tripp Hall. The two played two playoff holes before Hall took the win and Brantley settled for a second-place finish.

Along with Brantley, Nick Talley finished in third place at one-under. Starting on the first hole, Talley shot two-over on the front nine with a birdie on hole two. However, Talley caught fire on the back nine and shot a bogey-free 33 with birdies on the 13th, 16th and 17th holes.

Finishing third for the Senators was Alex Gaetz in seventh place at one-over. Gaetz had birdies on the 12th, 16th and 18th holes and shot 35 on both sides of the course.

In fourth for Walters State was Blake Woody in 13th at two-over. Woody birdied the 12th and 17th holes and then closed strong with a birdie on his final hole of the day, the difficult 510-yard par-5 third hole.

Rounding out the team was Sloan Brooks in 21st at four-over. Brooks birdied the 10th and 13th holes and shot 2-over on both the front and back nines.

Playing as individuals were Jonas Rayfield in 26th at 5-over and Ian Kinsey in 54th at 11-over. Rayfield birdied the first and fourth holes in his round while Kinsey shot even-par on his back nine.
