Nassau CC Men's Lacrosse Downs Harford CC in Overtime to Claim 2021 NJCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championship

Nassau Community College secured its 22nd NJCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship with a thrilling double-overtime victory over second-seeded Harford (MD) in Garden City, NY on Sunday. The Lions forced overtime with a stunning goal scored with five seconds remaining in regulation. Jack Pucci's overtime winner came with 20 seconds to play in the second extra session to lead the Nassau back to the top of the NJCAA Lacrosse world.

The Lions currently hold the NJCAA record for most championship titles, with 22. The last title came in 2008, when Nassau defeated CCBC Essex.

Sunday's national title game had high expectations, with both teams coming in undefeated and boasting the nation's first and second scoring offenses.

Nassau entered the game averaging an NJCAA-best 19.13 goals per game while Harford was close behind with a respectable 18.9 goals per game to the table. Both teams reached double-digit goals in the title game, but Nassau ultimately prevailed 12-11.

The game displayed a tale of two halves, as each defense buckled down in the first half with only six combined goals scored going into the break. The second half and overtime periods saw a lot more action, as 17 of the 23 goals were scored after the break

With time winding down, Nassau made a last-second push which saw Skylar Wilde find the back of the net with five seconds remaining, thanks to a perfect pass by Jack Pucci.

In his fifth season at the helm of the tradition-rich Lions' program, John Savage led Nassau to its 50th championship appearance and its 22nd title. Savage took over the program in 2016, having accomplished winning seasons in each of his five years in Garden City.
