Good final effort before regionals

In their final regular match of the season, the Cyclones faced a menacing foe in College of Lake County. Although the Cyclones suffered a 9-0 loss, they were not completely shut out or overwhelmed by the Lancers but instead fought for every point and are looking toward the region tournament.

The Cyclones played well but had trouble putting it all together on another chilly and windy day at home. Lake County had several returners from their 2019 national qualifying team whereas the Cyclones had one. But they fought hard through every set.

Results varied: No. 1 singles Yianni Livieratos (6-2, 6-2), Ali Amer at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0), David Souza at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2), James Coan at No. 4 (6-2, 6-1), Jakub Zolnik at No. 5 (6-1, 6-1) and Edwin Esparza Hernandez at No. 6 (6-3, 6-2). All doubles matches saw identical final scores – 6-2, 6-2 – from No. 1 doubles Livieratos/ Souza, No. 2 grouping Amer/Coan and No. 3 pair Zolnik/Lucas Skowyra.

The Cyclones ended the regular season with an overall 6-3 record and 2-2 in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference. The season went quick, but they're ready for one final hurrah.

"We played well today and throughout the season. The team bonding was amazing, and we look forward to putting out our best effort at the regional tournament," said Head Coach Mike Maratea.
