Holcomb leads Lady Wolves to 78-68 win over Hinds

UTICA, Miss. – Nakeisha Holcomb came of the bench and scored 19 points for the Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College as the Lady Wolves defeated Hinds on the road. Co-Lin is now 12-1 on the season and 3-1 in the competitive MACJC South Division. The loss moves Hinds to 10-3 on the year. The Lady Wolves are back in action Monday, January 22nd at 5:30 p.m. as Co-Lin travels to Summit, Miss. to take on the Southwest Lady Bears. Listen to the action live at colinathletics.com.

"We struggled to start, and even struggled to start the third quarter," said Co-Lin volunteer assistant coach Lane Young. "Holcomb came in and did a great for us today, she is very athletic and made some great plays and took advantage of some and-one opportunities…we did a great job late in the game with our free throws when we were in the bonus to really seal the game."

Neither team was in rhythm in the first quarter Saturday as the Lady Bulldogs held Co-Lin to just seven points in the first 10 minutes. Fortunately for Co-Lin Hinds also struggled to find the basket as the Lady Bulldogs mustered just nine to take a 9-7 lead into the second period.

The Lady Wolves came out firing the second as Holcomb came off the bench and scored nine in the quarter. Co-Lin rattled off 22 points in the second quarter including a an 11-2 run that gave the Lady Wolves six point lead at the half.

In the third, the Lady Bulldogs regained the lead, 33-31, with a burst of offense midway through the quarter. Co-Lin responded and tied the game for the sixth time with two minutes remaining in the third at 43 all. Co-Lin took the lead and stretched it to six going into the fourth after Holcomb drained a three-pointer at the buzzer.

The fourth quarter was all Co-Lin as the Lady Wolves held off the Lady Bulldogs with lockdown defense.

Holcomb led Co-Lin with 19 points, while Alexus Holt posted 15. Brittany Rose came off the bench and added 11, while Karry Callahan scored 10. Callahan, along with Alexandria Patton led Co-Lin on the boards with seven rebounds each. T'Kyra Hicks led the Lady Wolves with four assists, and Holt led Co-Lin in steals with three.

Victoria Johnson was dominant for Hinds as she scored 32 points. Kirdis Clark posted 13 for the Lady Bulldogs. Deja Moore led Hinds on the glass with seven rebounds, and Emesha Chatman led the Lady Bulldogs with six assists.

Co-Lin shot 39 percent (22-for-57) from the field, 25 percent (3-for-21) from the three-point line, and 76 percent (31-for-41) from the foul stripe. The Lady Bulldogs finished the night shooting 36 percent (25-for-69) from the field, 21 percent (4-for-19) from beyond the arc, and 63 percent (14-for-22) from the free throw line.

"Southwest is going to be tough in Summit," said Young. "They are going to try to control the tempo, and use a lot of different offensive sets. We have to really show up next week."
