Men's golf places third at The Invite at Innisbrook

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team finished third in The Invite at Innisbrook Monday at the Copper Course at Innisbrook Resort.

The event was shortened to 36 holes due to the threat of Hurricane Ian.

The Titans finished third in the event that featured 17 schools, mostly four-year NAIA or NCAA Division II teams.

Eastern Florida State College shot rounds of 292 and 293 on Monday and was two strokes behind second-place finisher Southeastern University. Keiser University won the event, shooting 8-over 576 for the tournament.

The Titans were led by freshman Adam Vermut who had his second straight good finish, placing sixth overall with a 2-over 144. Teammate Murphy Allard was tied for 14th at 5-over and Brandon Boncore shot a 6-over to tie for 19th overall.

Nick Miller finished seven over for the tournament and was tied for 22nd while Noah Campbell tied for 28th at 8-over.

"We got off to a rough start in the morning round but had a nice comeback by the guys," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "The Copperhead Course at Innisbrook is a very good test for all and any time you can compete at a PGA Tour venue, the team can take positive information from it."

The men's golf team will play in the McDonough Cup on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
