No. 1 Cowley beat No. 15 Gulf Coast

The No. 15 Mississippi Gulf Coast men's tennis team finished its three-day Texas swing Wednesday by facing top-ranked Cowley in Tyler, Texas. 

The Bulldogs lost 9-0 to finish up three games in three days against three teams in the top five of the ITA junior college rankings.

Gulf Coast lost at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by 8-6 scores. Paul Gayk (So., Muelheim an der Ruhr, Germany/Berufskolleg Lehnerstrasse) and Owen Stice (Fr., Atlanta, Ga./Laurel Springs) battled at the top spot, with Kyle Bond (So., Wiggins/Stone) and Triston Hill (Fr., Perkinston/Stone) nearly pulling an upset, as well.

Gayk lost his No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-4.

Gulf Coast got on the bus after the match to return to Perkinston. The Bulldogs will play at Hanceville, Ala., on Saturday against Wallace State. They'll be off for spring break until March 28 when Southwest Mississippi visits the MGCCC Tennis Complex.
