Whitworth nets 30, but Wolves fall to PRCC

POPLARVILLE, Miss. – The Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College lost their second of the game to Pearl River Community College, 92-74, to move to 6-2 on the year and 0-1 in division play. PRCC moves to 9-0 on the year and 1-0 in the MACJC play. Dajon Whitworth had a standout game for the Wolves in the loss as the freshman poured in 30 points after going 11-of-17 from the floor. Co-Lin is back on their home court this Saturday, December 8 as the Wolves host the Delgado Community College Dolphins at 3 p.m. The game can be watched live at colinathletics.com or heard live at WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.

The Wildcats took an early 7-0 lead in the game and, much like the girls game, never gave it up. Co-Lin quickly bounced back from the rough start and cut the Wildcats lead to four, 17-13, midway through the quarter after Whitworth spun into the paint for a layup. Minutes later PRCC followed with an offensive burst that resulted in another 7-0 run and stretched the lead to double digits, 28-17, with 7:54 remaining in the opening half. Co-Lin refused to allow the Wildcats to run away with the game with short offensive runs. Going into the half the Wolves had cut the lead to eight, 47-39.

The second half was much of the same as the Wolves shooting from beyond the arc, a staple in Co-Lin's offense, and struggled controlling the boards.

Whitworth posted a career-high 30 points for the Wolves after hitting 4-of-6 three-pointers in the game. The freshman also had three rebounds. Dayquan Perkins also came off the bench for Co-Lin to score double digits as he added 10 points and four boards. Another notable performance was Cameron Woodall's eight points and eight rebounds.

LaGarious White led PRCC with 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc. Brandon Rachal also posted a double-double for the Wildcats as he scored 10 and hauled in a team-high 17 rebounds.

Co-Lin shot 37 percent (28-of-75) from the floor, 27 percent (6-of-22) from three-point range, and 50 percent (12-of-24) from the free throw line. The Wildcats shot 52 percent (35-of-67) from the floor, 35 percent (8-of-23) from downtown, and 58 percent (14-of-24) from the stripe.
