Scotties Continue to Build Going 3-1 at McCook Invite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Highland volleyball team travled to McCook, Neb. to partake in their weekend invite. Highland faced North Platte, host team McCook, Cloud County, and Butler Community College. The Scotties had taken a match from North Platte earlier this season but with seeing a newly constructed team this weekend, the Knights battled to take the win in the first game of the tournament. The loss did not affect the Scotties that day as they won in four sets to the host team McCook CC. Saturday turned out to be victorious over two KJCCC West teams but the T-Birds of Cloud County made sure it was not easy taking the match to five sets. The Butler Grizzlies were the last team on Highlands agenda and the Scotties swept 3-0 to end the tournament with three wins and one loss.

Polanco had another outstanding performance of Highland's third tournament of the season totaling and also leading the team in kills (56) and digs (67). Kleitz did her job putting down 47 kills and 11 blocks, along with Johnson having her best action in tournament play with 59 total digs. Pearson stayed consistent for the team statting 142 total set assists. Freshman Emma Cohalla led the team with 15 total blocks, her best blocking performance at a tournament this season.

Highland will travel to Kansas City, KS to take on the KCKCC Blue Devils (3-3) on Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30PM.

GAME RESULTS:

Match One: Highland vs. North Platte 1-3 (25-21, 20-25, 24-26, 21-25)

. Our middle blockers kept the Scotties alive on offense with 21 of the teams total of 36. Katie Pearson yet again dished out 31 set assists in the four set match. Leslie Polanco performed well on defense leading the team in digs with 18. Libero Kirsten Johnson came up with 11 and Ellie Smith took ahold of her opportunity on defense and was the teams second highest with 12 digs and two aces.

Match Two: Highland vs. McCook CC 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 28-26, 25-17)

The Scottie defense kept the Scotties on top in set one over Indians coming up with 27 digs. Losing the second set with inconsistency on offense but the team turned it back around to take the last two sets to win the match. Polanco and Keitz were the kill leaders, both with 14. Pearson stated 39 set assists and one service ace. Polanco led on defense (18) with freshman Johnson right there with 17 and Smith with nine. The team totaled 10 blocks on the four set match.

Match Three: Highland vs. Cloud County 3-2 (18-25, 19-25, 25-18, 26-24, 15-7)

With a thrilling five set match comes a joyous victory over the TBirds of Cloud County CC. Sophomore's Kleitz and Polanco were the go to's yet again both with 16 and 17 kills on the five set match followed by Cohalla with five. The team had a season high 13 blocks. Defensively the Scotties had four girls in double digit digs; Johnson (16), Polanco (16), Pearson (13), and Orozco (12).

Match Four: Highland vs. Butler CC 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 26-24)

Polanco finished off the tournament on a high with a double-double on kills (16) and digs (15). Johnson and Pearson both stayed consistent with their roles at libero and setter, Johnson with 15 digs and Pearson with 34 set assists. Kleitz and Cohalla both had nine and eight kills respectively and Sydney Prine had a career high 1 digs.
