Lady Commodores Open Season With Big Win

November 6, 2015 - With a short-handed bench and a first-year coach, the Lady Commodores felt no pressure as they won big to tip the season off Friday night. In a lop-sided victory, LCCC beat University of Pitt Titusville 101-41.

Match Recap
First year head coach, Vincent Granito, didn't hesitate to send a message by jumping out of the gate fast; the Commodores went on a 17-0 run to start the game and never took their foot off the pedal. LCCC was lead by Madi Bonner and Onyx Lopez, who each contributed 18 points in the first half, and made the night very difficult for the Panthers. In the first half, the Commodores out rebounded the Panthers 25 to 15 and had just one turnover to the Panthers seven.

The key to success the entire game was the ball movement by the Commodores. In just the first half, LCCC connected on 14 assists which is what Coach Granito preached to his team all pregame. After the game Coach Ganito said, "The number of assists we had tonight was great. We moved the ball so well and that just comes from playing together all through the off season. I wanted to make sure we played as a unit, not as individuals."

Much was the same in the second half as the Commodores ended the night shooting 51 percent from the field. Finishing with a double double, Brandi Holowecky (22 points, 12 rebounds) helped the Commodores finish off the Panthers in dominate fashion.
