All 10 Cowley wrestlers qualify for national tournament

The No. 24-ranked Cowley College wrestling team had a strong showing at the South Central Region Qualifier Saturday in Colby, KS, as they qualified all 10 wrestlers for the NJCAA National Championship in Council Bluffs, IA.

"Any time we can come out of a qualifier with all qualifying we are happy," Cowley head coach Beau Vest said.

The Tigers were led by Ryan Smith placing second at 133 pounds, while Beau Perez placed third at 157 pounds.

"I feel like squeezing in the last minute matches right before the qualifier helped us," Vest said.

Trenton Grant (141 pounds), Brandon Kidd (149 pounds), and Dean Setticase (285 pounds) each placed fourth for Cowley as all 10 wrestlers finished in seventh place or better.

The Tiger wrestlers will now have some time to work on things before the national championship on March 4.

"We have a little time and a lot of polishing to do to get ready for the national championship," Vest said.
