Lady Wolves roll past Baton Rouge

SUMMIT, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves rolled past the Baton Rouge Community College Lady Bears 71-49. The game was held in Summit, Miss. on the campus of Southwest Mississippi Community College in the annual Southwest Mississippi Coca-Cola Classic Tournament. The Lady Wolves are back in action tomorrow in Summit as Co-Lin faces LSU-Eunice at 1 p.m.

The Lady Wolves had a hot start as the team poured in 32 points in the opening 10 minutes of play. The points piled up as the Lady Wolves were nailing three-pointers early from Azaria Magee, Chardonay Williams, and T'Kyra Hicks. On the other end of the floor, the Lady Wolves were forcing turnovers and grabbing rebounds. After one quarter of play, Co-Lin led 32-11.

Co-Lin's fiery offense cooled off in the second quarter as the Lady Bears made a small push. Baton Rouge outscored Co-Lin 16-10 in the period and cut the Lady Wolves' lead to just 15, 42-27, going into the half.

The offensives woes continued in the second for Co-Lin. The Lady Wolves' stellar shooting that started the game had faded. Co-Lin's defense held strong on the other end and limited the Lady Bears to shooting just 19 percent (6-of-31) from the floor in the final two quarters. Unfortunately, Co-Lin recorded 26 fouls on the day and sent BRCC to the line on numerous occasions. The Lady Bears shot 68 percent (23-of-34) from the charity stripe, but it was not enough as Co-Lin escaped with a 71-49 victory.

Sha'Quandra Carter was Co-Lin's only double-digit scorer with 13 points. The freshman also led the team in rebounds with eight. Carter was 3-of-7 from the floor, 1-of-2 from three-point range, and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Camryn Davis poured in nine points and posted seven rebounds, while Azaria Magee added nine off the bench. Magee was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Darien Tubby led the Lady Wolves with four assists.

Desrael Schnyder led BRCC with 11 points, while Kayla Watson added 10. Schnyder, Malaya Spears, Bailey Antoine, and Tronayia Issac all finished with six rebounds each.

As a team, Co-Lin shot 38 percent (21-of-56) from the floor, 33 percent (9-of-27) from three-point range, and 74 percent (20-of-27) from the free throw line. Co-Lin hauled in 50 total rebounds. The Lady Bears shot 23 percent (12-of-53) from the floor, 18 percent (2-of-11) from downtown, and 68 percent (23-of-34) from the stripe. BRCC had 37 rebounds in the game.
