No. 13 Commodores Defeat Edison State in Four Sets

 

October 21, 2022 - - The Lorain County Community College volleyball team picked up their sixth win in their last eight contests Friday evening, defeating Edison State Community College in four sets (25-19, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19).  It is the 12th win for the Commodores (12-6) this season as they gear up for their final Ohio Community College Athletic Conference match against Clark State Community College Saturday morning at the Ewing Activities Center (11 a.m.).  LCCC is 9-4 in the OCCAC.

 

Chelsey Farris (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) got her fourth match of 20+ kills this season and her second match of 20+ kills against Edison State in 2022 with 22.  The sophomore also hit .442 and had seven blocks (two solo).  Shawny Hess (Oberlin, Ohio/Firelands HS) hit .385 and along with Abbey Williams (North Ridgeville, Ohio/First Baptist Christian) had three blocks each.

 

Four Commodores recorded double-digit digs against the Eagles.  Izabel Gallardo-Santo Domingo (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) had a team-high 24, her seventh match this year with 20+ digs.  Brooklyn Ollis (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) and Maggie Riley (Elyria, Ohio/Midview HS) each collected 12 while teammate Jordan Benware (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake HS) had 11 to go along with 25 assists. Riley had 18 assists.

 

After the Commodores face Clark State on Saturday, they will travel to Perrysburg to face off against Delta College in the first round of the NJCAA Region XII DIII Championships at 4 p.m. on the campus of Owens Community College.  The winner of that contest will face the NJCAA DIII No. 2 Owens Express who are back-to-back-to-back national champions.
