FGC Men’s Basketball Take Santa Fe to Double Overtime, Fall 99-90

The Timberwolves faced the Santa Fe College Saints in the Howard Center Wednesday night in the two teams' first match up of the season. The Wolves came up just short, 99-90, at the end of double overtime.

The Wolves were down by nine points at the end of the first half, and still trailed by nine with three minutes to go. Then the fight back began, and with 13 seconds remaining, Tydarius Gulley laid the ball in to cut the lead to 77-76. After Santa Fe split a pair of free throws, Maurice Campbell drove the length of the floor and scored with two seconds left to tie the game. FGC controlled the first four minutes of OT, before Santa Fe went on a 6-0 run in the last minute to take their first lead of the period. Once again Maurice Campbell was the hero, draining two free throws with 0.8 seconds left to force a second overtime. With fatigue setting in, the Saints dominated the second overtime, scoring 10 to FGC's one point and bringing the final score to 99-90.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Charles Ruise was pleased with the teams effort. "It's always disappointing to lose, but the guys didn't quit and competed hard against a good team," Ruise stated. "The experience we gain playing these kind of games will really help us going forward."

FGC were led by Maurice Campbell with 24 points. Jeremiah Barze had 16 points. Tydarius Gulley, Antewan Webber, and Eric Canavan all chipped in 11 points.
