Cougars Tripped Up by Seahawks

Beeville, TX-  The Coastal Bend College men's basketball team hosted Lamar State College – Port Arthur on Saturday, February 19th for a conference matchup. The Cougars are looking to get revenge for the loss at Lamar last time they met.

After starting the game with a slow start down 7-2, the Cougars would go on a 13-0 run. They would lead the Seahawks 15-7 with just over seven minutes into the game. Throughout the remainder of the first half, Lamar would outscore CBC 34-17, and lead the Cougars 41-32 at the half.

Following halftime, the coaching staff were focused on defense, limiting Lamar from second chance points and stopping the ball earlier in transition. The Cougars were getting easy points off transition in the first half, and were looking to push the pace more in the second half.

Coastal Bend would start the half off to a strong offensive start with Robert Gil scoring 11 points in a 14-9 run by CBC. Lamar leads, 50-46, with five minutes into the second half. However, Lamar State would go on a 21-10 run immediately after and take command of the game. Ultimately beating Coastal Bend by a final score of 92-74.

Sophomore Guard, Robert Gil led all scorers with 20 points while grabbing five rebounds, five assists and one steal. Guard, Jaylen Williams had 11 points along with four assists and one steal, while Lonzo Rand had 10 points, three rebounds and two steals. Center, Faybeyon Shelton scored 10 points, grabbed five rebounds, and had one block in the contest.
