Cowboys open NJCAA National Tournament with Win over John A Logan College

Hutchinson, Kansas- Connors State went back and forth with John A Logan College and posted an 80-75 win over John A Logan College in the opening round of the National Junior College Athletic Association National Championship Tournament Saturday in Hutchinson, Kansas.

"I thought a lot of our success was that we were well prepared going in," said CSC head coach Bill Muse. "We had a good game plan and Bill (Muse Jr.) did a good job of scouting them. We got off to a good start which really helped, and our defense was good also. They came out and scored quickly in the second half to take an early second half lead around the midway part of the game, but we just never gave in. We had big scoring numbers for Edwin, DJ, Kevin and Jermiah."

Dormu proved to be the power for the Cowboys in the second half, going 9 for 10 from the Free Throw Line and ending up with 25 points, while Edwin Daniel finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds and 7 Blocks, Omaha's Kevin Stubblefield Jr and Tulsa Oklahoma Native Jermiah Johnson ended up with 11 points apiece. Connors and John. A Logan went back and forth beofre the volenteers went ahead by 10 with just over 5 Minutes to play. But the Cowboys went on a 17-2 run to finish the game and the Vols would get no closer than three in the final seconds of the game.

Davius Loury, led John A Logan with 28 points in the game including six 3-pointers.

The Cowboys will move on in the tournament to play number One Seed Snow College at 12 p.m. Monday.
