MASON CITY - The NIACC baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of Indian Hills Wednesday at Roosevelt Field.
NIACC won the first game 12-2 in five innings and won the second game 9-1. The Trojans hit seven home runs in the twinbill - four in the first game three in the second game.
Bennett McCollow hit two of the Trojans' four home runs in the opener and Will Couchman hit both of the Trojans' round trippers in the second game against the Warriors (30-16).
It was the fifth time in his career that McCollow has had at least a two home run game. He also has a three home run game to his credit against Kirkwood in the 2022 season.
It is the 10th and 11th time this season that a NIACC player hit two home runs in game. McCollow had a two home run game against DMACC on April 2 and Couchman had a two home run game against Ellsworth on April 5.
McCollow now has 14 home runs this season and 26 for his career, which is tied for fourth on the school's career home run list. Troy Bullingham also hit 26 career home runs in the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
In the first game Wednesday, Adam Berghult and Darcy Berry joined McCollow with home runs against the Warriors. It was Berghult's 13th homer of the season and Barry's second of the year.
NIACC scored nine runs in the third inning on four hits as the Trojans took advantage of two Indian Hills' miscues.
Fritz Meyer (1-1) gained the complete-game win for the Trojans. He allowed two runs on six hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
In the second game, NIACC pounded out 12 hits to score its nine runs. Alex Berreth hit a grand slam for the Trojans in the sixth inning. It was Berreth's eight home run of the season.
McCollow, Berreth, Brayden Hellum and Kade Peloquin all had two hits each for the Trojans.
Zach Dohrmann (1-4) gained the win on the mound for the Trojans. Dohrmann allowed one unearned run on one hit with three strikeouts, one walk and one hit by pitch in five innings of work.
NIACC (20-27, 16-14) wraps up its regular season with a three-game series at Iowa Lakes on Friday and Saturday.
