In their first game of the new year, the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals dropped a close contest to the Community College of Beaver County, falling 72-68.
The Cardinals jumped to a 34-30 lead at the half but outscored 42-34 in the second half. Despite forcing 23 turnovers, the Cardinals could not overcome a 25-point night from Beaver County star Jalen Vaughn.
Sophomore guard Jalen Yates (Baltimore City) finished the night as the leading scorer for the Cardinals with 16 points. Sophomore guard Keith Bullock Jr. (Cardozo) ended the night with 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Sophomore forward Maurice Smith (Newtown) added 11 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while sophomore forward Christopher Johnson (St. George's High) added ten points.
The next match for the Cardinals will be against Navy JV on Thursday, January 12.
