Scotties advance to second National Tournament in school history

The Highland Men's Basketball team advances to the second National Tournament appearance in school history after an 83-65 win over Labette Community College in the Region VI Championship game on Wednesday.
 
First Team All-KJCCC player Holden Redparth wasn't ready for his season to come to an end on Wednesday, as he led his team to their 25th win of the season and a trip to the National Tournament with 29-points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals.
 
The Scotties jumped out to a quick lead over the Cardinals in the first ten minutes of the game leading 22-13. The Cardinals put together a run and took the lead back from the Scotties 26-25 with 3:45 to play in the half. The Cardinal lead lasted for less than 30 seconds as Holden Redparth came down the court and knocked down a three to regain the lead 28-26, a lead they would never give back to the Cardinals.
 
Highland went on a 13-3 run to close out the first half and took a 38-29 lead into the locker room at the break.
 
The Scotties came out of the locker room and were focused on one goal, winning the game. The Scotties kept their distance throughout the final 20 minutes not allowing the Cardinals to get closer that eight points. Holden Redparth and Taiveyhon knocked down free throws late to seal the victory for Highland and the Scotties went onto win 83-65 and advance to their second National Tournament in school history.1698
 
This win was also No. 25 on the season, breaking their mark from last year, 24 wins, and setting a new high with the most wins in Men's Basketball program history. 
 
Holden Redparth was on fire going 7-13 from three-point range and 8-8 from the charity stripe finishing with a double-double 29 points and 11 rebounds. Taiveyhon Mason and Alonzo Williams both finished with 15 points each. Williams grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists and had two steals. Mason had three steals and three assists. Ryan Haskins finished with nine points and eight rebounds while Kevin Perry added eight points and five boards.
 
The Scotties advance to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville, IL from March 20-24, 2018. Highland will wait for their tournament seeding which will come out Monday to see who they will face in the first round of the tournament.
