Lady Bulldogs defeat Lady Bears 63 to 60

Thursday November 29, 2018: Women's Basketball

Goodman, MS

Lady Bears lose another heartbreaker, this time to Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs.

The first quarter was very sloppy for both teams. Neither team could find their rhythm on offense, during the first five minutes of the game.  Even with the Lady Bears sloppy play, they tied the game at 11, at the end of the quarter.  The inconsistency continued for the Lady Bears, in the second quarter. At the half, Holmes led 28 to 23.

At the half, Coach Lee challenged her kids to come out with more intensity, be more crisp on offense, play solid defense and stop fouling and giving Holmes free chances at the line.

The Lady Bears came out, in the third quarter, with a bit more fire and passion.  They outscored the Lady Bulldogs 22 to 9, to take a 45 to 38 lead heading to the fourth.  The fourth quarter was another interesting quarter for the Lady Bears. Holmes came out on a 13 to 3 run, in the first five minutes, to retake the lead at 51 to 48.  Both teams went back and forth for the next couple minutes with the game being tied twice in that span. Holmes opened up a 7 point lead, 60-53 with 23 seconds left in the game.  The Lady Bears did not quit and cut the lead to one, 60 to 61 with 4 seconds left. Tronayia Issac led the charge with 7 points down the stretch.  The Lady Bears had their chance to tie the game but two missed three pointers sealed their fate.  Holmes Lady Bulldogs defeats Baton Rouge Lady Bears 63 to 60, in a region 23 match up.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Jekalen Jones with 23 points and Brysa Maxwell with 11. The Lady Bears were led by Kayla Watson with 20 points.
