Blinn falls to Kilgore on the road, 75-62

KILGORE, Texas - The Blinn College women's basketball team fell to Kilgore College, 75-62, despite playing a strong final quarter on Wednesday night in Kilgore.

"We played hard, but Kilgore made some tough shots and we could not overcome that on the road," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach.

On Blinn's side, Rayanna Carter and Alanna Spencer led the offense with 11 points each. Ke'Asia Williams followed with 10 points, while Missy Archie chipped in with nine points.

Kilgore College built an early 25-13 lead in the first quarter that it would never surrender. In the second quarter the Buccaneers picked up the pace to outscore Kilgore 13-12 and cut Kilgore's lead to 37-26 at thehalf.

Kilgore took back the momentum in the third quarter by scoring 29 points to hold a 66-48 lead. In the final quarter the Buccaneers played their best quarter and held Kilgore to nine points, while scoring 14 points.

With the loss, the Buccaneers fall to 3-9 in Region XIV conference play and 10-12 overall.

Blinn will continue conference play on the road on Saturday, Feb. 3 when the Buccaneers take on Bossier Parish Community College at 2 p.m. Earlier in the season, Bossier Parish defeated Blinn, 92-89, in overtime.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
