Men’s Basketball Snaps Losing Skid

Catonsville, MD- It took all 40 minutes of play, but the Cardinals escaped Tuesday night's matchup against Richard Bland College with a 79-76 victory. Catonsville did not get off to an ideal start as Richard Bland got out to a commanding 32-14 lead with 6:46 remaining in the first half. Steals on consecutive possessions by John McNeal and Micko Reeves both lead to an Andre McFadden three pointer on the offensive end which put the Cardinals right back in the game. A buzzer beater three by Richard Bland's Mykai Smith made it a 39-32 contest in favor of the visitors at halftime.

The 2nd half was all CCBC as they used a 23-9 run down the stretch to outscore Richard Bland 47-37 in the half to secure the victory. Andre McFadden took charge in this one and was a key factor in sparking the comeback. McFadden finished the game with 29 hard earned points as he knocked down 12 of his 15 free throw attempts down the stretch. Joacquin Gonzalez stepped up for the Cardinals finishing with a season high of 16 points while shooting 4-6 from behind the three point line. Kenneth Southerland was a force for Richard Bland as his 25 points and 16 rebounds were not quite enough for the visitors.

Micko Reeves' defensive effort played a key role in this one as he finished the game with four steals and also dished out five assists on the offensive end. Catonsville won the rebound battle 58-46 and Kim Brown Jr. lead the way for the home team in this category with 11 on the night.

This was a much needed win the Cardinals and could be just what they needed to get back on track. The team will be back in action as they host Manor College on Sunday, December 15th, at 4PM as they look to make it back to back victories.
