Trojans lose heartbreaker at Coahoma
MOORHEAD – The 2021 campaign came to a close for the Mississippi Delta Community College men's basketball team on Tuesday night in Clarksdale after a tough 63-58 loss at the hands of Coahoma Community College.
The two rivals had split the previous two regular season games prior to Tuesday, but the Tigers of CCC are now the ones moving on in the Region XXIII tournament.
Delta and Coahoma headed into the locker room with the homestanding Tigers leading just 33-32, and the Tigers were able to extend their lead to nearly 20 points with just 10 minutes remaining in the contest.
MDCC, as they have done all season, continued to chip away and cut it to a three-point lead, 61-58, with less than two minutes left to play. It was not meant to be, however, as a Trojan turnover and a made basket for CCC sealed the deal.
Chavis Banks (Yazoo City) led all Delta scorers with 19 points on the night, one in which was his final night to don a Trojans uniform.
Willie Eagins, Jr. (Jonestown) had 14 points and Wisdom Kowouto (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) added 11 points as well.
The Trojans finished the season with a 5-12 overall mark.
