Jalen Lynn came out on fire for the Greyhounds early, scoring 18 of his team-high 23 points in the first half, hitting four three-pointers in a row during one stretch, to help the Greyhounds take a commanding 52-35 halftime lead.
Then in the second half, ASU Mid-South withstood a run by the Archers with a controlled offense that saw forwards Zach Byrd scored 11 of his 15 points and Christian White put in 6 of his 8 points as St. Louis never got closer than 10 points the rest of the game.
The Greyhounds (7-3) did give up 18 turnovers and allowed the Archers an uncharateristic 29 offensive rebounds, but managed 22 fastbreak points while shooting 48% from the field and 41% from the three-point line.
Byrd finished with his third double-double in the last four games, pulling down 10 rebounds to go with his 15 points, while Shaheed Halk and Ike Moore scored 10 points each. Halk also dished out a game-high 6 assists with Caleb Henry registering 5, and White added 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots to his 8 points.
ASU Mid-South heads to the holiday break having won 5 of the last 6 games while averaging 87.7 points per game. The Greyhounds are shooting 51.3% from the field (currently 6th in the nation), 40.3% from the 3-point line (currently 7th in the nation) and 68.5% from the free throw line. They are also in the top 20 in both rebounds (46.6 rebounds per game, currently 16th) and assists (20.2 per game, currently 17th).
The Greyhounds come back after the new year to face Campbellsville University at Somerset and Mid-South Prep at the Jackson State Classic on January 4-5 in Jackson, Tennessee. Their first home game will be Monday, January 14, against Itawamba Community College as the women tipoff at 5:00pm and the men are scheduled at 7:00pm.
