The Central Community College softball team dropped both games of its home opening double-header against Iowa Western Community College. A short recap of each game is below. The Raiders are 4-4 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday with a home double-header against Northeast Community College. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Raider Field.
Game 1: IWCC 13 CCC 1
The Reivers scored a pair of runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings before closing out a six-run seventh inning in a 13-1 win over the Raiders. Kailee Pollard batted in Kaylee McNeese for CCC's only run. Pollard took the loss after facing 40 batters in seven innings.
Game 2: IWCC 19 CCC 4 (five innings)
The Reivers exploded for 14 runs in the fifth inning for a 19-4 win over the Raiders. Anna Halladay, McNeese, Caroline Riffer and Kinsley Wimer scored for CCC while Pollard took the loss.
"We struggled offensively," said CCC head coach Caitlin Simon. "Everything that could go wrong went wrong, and mentally we took ourselves out of the game before it was over. This week we look forward to getting six games in and getting another chance to make adjustments and give it all we have."
