Jayhawks Fall To The Kats In Region Action

JAMESTOWN - Starting off conference play, the Jamestown Community College men;s basketball team fell to Erie Community College, 96-67 Saturday afternoon at the Physical Education Complex.

 

The Jayhawks (2-16, 0-1 Region 3) were led by freshman forward Gonzalo Luque (Madrid, Spain/Instituto Ortega y Gasset) with a double-double, scoring 14 points while grabbing 13 rebounds (2 offense, 11 defense). Freshman forward Josiah Ransom (Orange Park, FL/Helena HS) led the team in scoring with 15 points thanks in large part to sinking 6-of-7 from the free throw line.

 

Facing a 22-point deficit late in the first half, JCC kept battling and slowly chipped into the lead thanks in part to a 13-5 run to close out the half. During the run, Freshman forward Moussa Kaba (Jamaica, NY/Martin Luther HS) knocked down a three-pointer and made a pair of free throws to make it 49-35 at the break.

 

The Jayhawks continued to fight but were outscored by the Kats in the second half, 47-32.

 

JCC went 20-for-44 (44.4 percent) from the floor with ECC going 36-for-76 (47.6 percent) from the field. The Kats held the advantage on the glass, grabbing 42 rebounds to the Jayhawks' 34 rebounds. ECC also held the advantage in points in the paint, scoring 42 to JCC's 36 points.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action next Wednesday, January 26th, against No. 14 Niagara County Community College with tip set for 7:30 p.m.
